Asain Carp Invasion Resolution in Steps

Preface For Step Number One

So far , it is not exactly clear who is responsible the damage the Asian Carp are doing to the aquatic environment of the interior fresh waterways systems in the United States. Would you believe that the Environmental Protection Agency, (E.P.A.) is being investigated as a prime suspect? It maybe they were doing some research on how the Asian Carp could help eliminate human and animal waste, way back in the 1970’s . It seems this all started in the area of the States if Mississippi and Louisiana , probably in the Vicksburg Area. Did the Army Corp of Engineers have knowledge of this? I think they do have knowledge of this history. Do you know who is making recommendations on what to do next about this problem? You guessed it, The Army Corp of Engineers. Now this answers the question why, one day they recommend closure of the Chicago Canals, and the next day they don’t.

Step Number one: – Close of all water flow between Lake Michigan and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canals. We as a collection of States must join together. There is Security in Numbers. Injunctions need to be filed to the United States Congress to This will stop the migration of the Asian Carp. The State of Michigan has already tried this on their own. But have twice been turned down. We must let our voices of democracy be heard. I urge everyone concerned to contact their state Attorney General and let your concern about the Invasion of The Asian Carp be known. The states I’ve included will then be filing injunctions to The United Sates Congress to Close off the flow of water between Lake Michigan and the Chicago Sanitary System Canals. And with this effort we can stop the Asian Carp from Getting into Lake Michigan. Please keep in mind that the Great Lakes hold 30% of the fresh water on Planet Earth. The sport fishing industry alone is worth 7.4 Billion annually .

Here is a list of the states that are most immediately affected by the Asian Carp invasion of Lake Michigan and the rest of the Great Lakes.

1- Michigan - The State of Michigan has the most at stake in the Asian Carp Crisis. Michigan has shoreline on Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and Lake Huron. This state also has fresh water access to Lake Superior. Of course the fishing industry is huge here, and that all stands to be destroyed by the Asian Carp totally taking over the ecosystems surrounding them. On Lake Superior the upper portion of Michigan has shoreline also

2 - Illinois - The State of Illinois has shoreline on Lake Michigan of more than 300 mlies.Sport fishing and commercial fishing are important to the economy of Chicago and The State of Illinois. But the State of Illinois has already been drastically infected with the Asian Carp. The two main inland waterways are the Mississippi River and The Illinois River.

3 - Wisconsin- The State of Wisconsin has a vast shoreline of 495 Miles on Lake Michigan. Wisconsin tourism is a large part of their economy.

4 - Indiana - The State of Indiana has only 52 miles of shoreline on Lake Michigan. One of the main tourist attractions in Indiana is the beautiful Indiana Sand Dunes.

5 -Ohio - The State of Ohio boarders only on Lake Erie. But there is a huge amount of shoreline along the northerly part of this state. Walleye commercial sport fishing generates a large amount of revenue for this state.

6 - Minnesota - The State of Minnesota only has 160 miles of shoreline on Lake Superior only. But what is more at stake for this state is they have 175 miles of shoreline on the Mississippi River that has already been invaded by the Asian Carp and they have a well established population.

5 – Pennsylvania - The State of Pennsylvania only has 51 miles of shoreline along Lake Erie only. Consequently this state doesn’t have as much directly at stack as the other states involved in the Crisis.

6 - New York - The State of New York has 77 beautiful miles of shoreline on Lake Erie

Step Number Two: Figure out what exactly will kill the Asian Carp only, and eliminate them. Also do not destroy any other aquatic species! Then eliminate all the Asian Carp in the Chicago area canals and to the downstream to the beginning of the Illinois River. The Illinois River has a lock and dam system that can section of each pool of the river. What is a pool? A pool is like a lake area that is created by the lock and dam system between each lock and dam. For the Illinois River continue this process all the way south to the mouth of the river. The mouth of this river is near Alton Illinois where it joins with the Mississippi River.

Snip – This same process can be applied to the Mississippi River, since it has a similar lock and dam system that is comprised of 26 locks and dams. We would start at the northerly point where the Asian Carp have established a population. Then repeat this same process, and working to the south, Doing this pool by pool, one section of the river at a time.

By now, are you wondering about funding all these projects? President Obama has already committed 78 million dollars for the Asian Carp Invasion. Will this process cost more than 78 million dollars? Yes it could, the cost could be in the billions. Will it save more than we stand to lose in jobs and revenue? Yes, it will save the United States much more than it will cost.

Step Number Three: We, (The State of Illinois) must file suits against the sates and organizations that introduced this species into the fresh water system of the United States. These are the citizens and groups that need to be held responsible for this catastrophe. The current process being used is putting the financial burden on Illinois and the City of Chicago. The current estimate is that Illinois and Chicago will lose 4.7 Billion dollars in revenue over the next 20 years. Illinois needs to be compensated for these losses.

Following is a list of sites you can go to express your personal concerns, depending which state you are from. Where ever you live you can write to express your personal concerns in the matter of, “The Asian Carp Invasion Resolution Step By Step.”

Step Number Four: Re-open the Chicago Area Sanitary and Ship Canals, so the water again can flow between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River Basin. But only when it is clear that the Asian Carp and any DNA of Asian Carp is eliminated. I think this might be 10 to 20 years in the future.
